A North Mackay man has been charged following a shocking three-vehicle crash that sent a woman to hospital in a critical condition and damaged a water pump station.

A North Mackay man has been charged following a shocking three-vehicle crash that sent a woman to hospital in a critical condition and damaged a water pump station.
The 72-year-old driver of a Toyota LandCruiser had crashed into the rear of a Toyota Corolla, that was travelling west along Mackay Eungella Rd in Alexandra just after 8am on July 11.
It was alleged the Corolla was stationary indicating to turn right on to Palms Rd opposite the cemetery at the time of the crash.
The Toyota Corolla then hit an oncoming Nissan Navara travelling eastbound.
A 67-year-old woman was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition, and later flown to Townsville for further treatment.
The two other drivers, along with a primary school age child, were taken to Mackay Base Hospital with minor injuries.
Mackay Regional Council said one of the vehicles had crashed into the water pump station opposite the cemetery, which led to residents having to reduce their water use as the building was damaged.
The 72-year-old man was charged with driving without due care and attention causing grievous bodily harm and would face Mackay Magistrates Court on November 28.
