Name: Rainee Shepperson

Position: Journalist. I cover all things business at the Daily Mercury including business opening and closings and business profiles. I also report on Mackay Regional Council, fashion, pets and animals.

Time at the Daily Mercury: I just celebrated 12 months.

Connection to Mackay: I grew up in Sarina and attended Swayneville Primary School and Sarina State High School. I then went to CQUni in Mackay where I studied a Bachelor of Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts - majoring in Journalism and Creative Writing. My mum, dad and brother also live in Sarina/Mackay. I grew up dancing and still attend dance classes at Creative Edge Dance Studio in Sarina. I enjoy living in a smaller town because of the close connections you make with everyone.

Sports or hobbies: Dancing, piano, running, hiking, camping. My biggest hobby is definitely dancing, I started when I was two years old.

How do you spend your weekends? I spend time with friends, boating to islands, fishing, hiking, camping, relaxing, watching movies and spending too much money. I also love attending social events.

I wouldn't be caught dead in...Clogs.

You'll never see me without... My mobile phone.

My friends would be describe me as ... Friendly, girly, a stress-head, fun I hope?

I would me describe me as ... Always up for an adventure.

What do you love about Mackay? How close we are to beautiful beaches, islands and waterfalls.

What book/podcast are you into right now? Storyteller: A foreign correspondent's memoir by Zoe Daniel

The song that best describes me is... I'm not sure ...but I love Taylor Swift.

If you had to pick an issue that matters to you most - what would it be and why? I've always felt strongly about eradicating poaching and protecting animals at risk of extinction.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? At the moment I'd really like to go to Iceland and Finland. South America is also on the list. My next trip is to Lombok.
