Meet Mackay’s littlest leaders, and see their big dreams
They’ve been picked by their peers and teachers for their leadership qualities, already inspiring the next generation of kids to do their best. See what they want to be when they grow up.

One moment they’re little preppies walking through the school gates for the first time and the next they’re stepping into their first leadership roles.
From leading sports chants, acting as older buddies to newer kids or representing their school in the Anzac Day parades, these are Mackay’s sport and school captains, selected by their peers and teachers.
Beaconsfield State School
Captains:
Eric wants to be an IT Technician.
Quinn is showing maturity beyond her years by making her main focus happiness, encouraging others and leaving a positive impact on the world.
Vice Captains:
Beaconsfield State School’s two vice-captain’s, Riley and Jadah, both have athletic ambitions in rugby or cricket.
However, where they differ is that Riley is also considering video game design whereas Jadah is looking at a career in law or business if her rugby dreams don’t pan out.
Cultural Leaders:
Representing the cultural pursuits of Beaconsfield State School is Jaylee and Ellie.
Jaylee would like to be a singer when she goes up, whereas Ellie would like to be successful in university and become a nurse or a mechanic.
Instrumental Leaders:
Leading the instrumental groups of Beaconsfield State School are Chase and Robin.
While we weren’t able to track down what Chase wants to be when he grows up, Robin has been clear that she would like to “be remembered for something.”
“I want to leave my mark on the world by making Australia a better place,” Robin said.
“I know this won’t take just me, but when the constitution was created it was meant to bring our country together and this means we all have a responsibility to make it better.”
Sporting House Leaders:
Leading Robertson House in their sporting successes is Brooklyn, who would either like to join the Matildas or become a singer/songwriter.
Representing MacKenzie Houses sports teams is Christine, who would like to be an actor or a dancer.
The sports leader for Freeman is Taliah who wants to have a good impact on the world as a doctor, model or architect.
The sports leader of Huegill, Tyler, wants to be a basketball player and lead his team to a championship victory.
Bucasia State School
School Captains
Parker, school captain at Bucasia State School wants to be a professional soccer player.
School captain Aria wants to be a real estate agent.
Carlisle House Captains
Blake, Carlisle House captain at Bucasia State School is keeping options open — dancer, actor, or physicist.
Grace wants to be a vet or professional athlete.

Calen District Primary School
Primary School Captains
Representing the students of the Calen District Primary school are school captains Charlie Schaefer and Tilly Dreier.
Charlie Schaefer loves animals and, when she leaves school, would like to be a jillaroo and work with animals.
Also a lover of the outdoors is Tilly Dreier who wants to work on a cattle station.
Student Council Leaders
Leading the student council of the Calen District State College Primary is Ella Pratt and Xander Satinie.
After leaving school Ella would like to play ruby in the Women’s National Rugby League.
Xander Satinie wants to work in a shop and organise produce.
Mercury Sports Captains
Leading Mercury House in sports is Benson Jounquay-Hayes, who would like to either play football professionally or be a builder.
Another of Mercury’s team leaders is Mitchell Spreadborough who is looking to work in the mines.
Neptune Sports Captains
Representing Neptune House as one of its sports captains is Bailey Trembath, who would like to own a cattle station.
Working with Bailey is Indie Deguara who wants to become a vet and care for animals.
Class representatives
Representing one of the Calen District State College Primary’s classes is Sarah Williamson, who wants to take up photography as a hobby and become a vet.
Representing another class is Ashley Warnest who wants to race horses in rodeos when she grows up.
Calen District State College Secondary School
Secondary Captains
Leading the Calen District State College Secondary School’s cohort is Amy Bower and Hayden Brown.
Amy Bower would like to become a qualified electrician, whereas Hayden Brown dreams of becoming an engineer.
Mercury Sports Captains
The Mercury sports leaders for 2024 are Tasha Burgess and Austin Ryan.
Tasha would like to study marine biology and Austin would like to coach NRL.
Neptune Sports Captains
Leading Neptune house in sports is Michael Danks and Ella Dreier.
Michael has professional sporting ambitions as a swimmer, while Ella would like to become an interior designer once she leaves school.
Emmanuel Catholic Primary School
School Captain
Leading the Emmanuel Catholic Primary School are it’s two school captains Franske and Koby.
When Franske grows up he wants to become a marine biologist, however Franske would also like to play soccer and “be a role model to the younger people of our world”.
Koby wants to join the Australian Defence Force and “help protect and serve our country”.
Wallace House Captain
Leading Wallace House are Fraser and Lola.
Fraser would like to travel the world and become a successful rugby player.
Lola wants to inspire young kids to “find their passion” as a Queensland Ballerina and dance teacher.
McBride House Captain
Jimmy and Bella are the McBride House captains.
Jimmy looks up to his father and wants to work for him as a plumber and construction worker one day, while Bella would like to help people as a doctor.
Castles House Captain
Leading Castles House is Beau, who would like to work with cars, and Pyper who wants to be a sports journalist.
Carroll House Captain
The house captains for Carroll House are Archer, who wants to be a soccer player, and Charlotte who wants to help people who are unwell as a nurse.
Eungella State School
Unlike almost every other school on this list, Eungella State School does not have the traditional leadership roles of captains or vice-captains, however what they do have is a ‘leadership team’ with nine students setting an example for the rest of the cohort.
Cassidy has big dreams and big plans, starting with becoming an engineer, then running for Prime Minister, before settling down and opening an animal sanctuary.
Ruby Crowther also has some varied ambitions, first wanting to train in paramedicine so she can help and save lives, before becoming a customs officer.
Zoey Baillie loves animals, horses especially, to that end she intends to one day open a pet shop where she can “sell little fluffy animals”.
Angel isn’t sure what she wants to be when she grows up, but as a Eungella Student Leader, we’re sure she’ll be great at whatever she puts her mind to.
Matilda loves babysitting her little sister and wants to do it professionally as a daycare worker when she grows up.
Mia Stonehouse didn’t let us know what she’d like to be when she grows up, but we’re sure she’ll be great at whatever she decides to do.
McKenzi Whitnall loves singing so can imagine herself being a pop star like PINK or Taylor Swift.
She also wants to become some sort of biologist or zoologist and take to the forest to study animals.
Paige Kumar wants to work at the Finch Hatton service station when she grows up.
Ben Smith wants to work at his Mum and Dad’s sawmill when he grows up, he’d also like to become an author.
Mackay Central State School
School Captains
The school captains of Mackay Central State School both want to serve the public when they grow up, for Isabelle Hood that means becoming a doctor, for Keiran Agbayani that means enlisting in the ADF and protecting his country.
School Vice Captains:
Vice-captain Jacob Cedar thinks that becoming an electrician might be an option for him due to his proficiency with maths, whereas Rejanne Melocotones thinks that a future in photography would be “a fun way to express” themselves.

Mirani State School
School Captain
Mirani State School captain Emily Gibbons wants to be a nurse when she grows up.
Joining her in the role is Wyatt Mayne, who wants to join the Air Force and become a pilot.
School Vice-Captain
Airlie Miles, a vice-captain at Mirani State School, wants to become a marine biologist.
Vice-captain Levi Grogan wants to become a footy player when he grows up.
Cultural Captain
Jia-Li is one of the cultural leaders of Mirani State School and wants to become a horse riding instructor later in life.
Danielle Lord, also a cultural captain, wants to become a teacher and help educate future generations.
Dalrymple House Captain
Leading Dalrymple House is Lacee Jenner who wants to be a vet when she leaves school.
Joining Lacee as House Captain is Rubie Bell who wants to be a boilermaker.
Hamilton House Captain
Leading Hamilton House is Addison Doherty who wants to go to law school and become a lawyer.
Also on the Hamilton House leadership team is Kaida Santo, who wants to become a professional netball player.
Pioneer House Captain
The Pioneer House captain Luke Stephen is unsure of what kind of sportsman he wants to be when he grows up, but he definitely wants to play sports for a living.
Also leading Pioneer House is Jacob Lewandowski who’s aims to reach the stars one day as an astronaut.
Norris Road North Mackay
School Captains
Speaking for the students of Norris Road are their school captains Dylan Chen, who dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon, and Asher Brodie who aims to work with animals either as a vet or a marine biologist.
Student Council
Norris Road also has a student council supporting it’s captains.
On the council is Jayashri Naidu,who wants to become a neurosurgeon or doctor, Ashton Gianngelo, who wants to be a biologist, Ella Wailes, who would like to pursue teaching, Eve Dineen and Keely McCluskey who both want to work in medicine and Ava Scull who dreams of travelling the world.
Cultural Capitan’s
True to form, the Norris Rd cultural captains Clair Senior and Kane Robertson want to dance and sing professionally, although if singing doesn’t work out for Kane, he’ll also settle for playing football professionally.
Systems Monitors
The systems monitors help keep Norris Road running and they’ve all got grand ambitions, such as Montana Morgan who wants to be a movie star when she grows up or Koen Robertson wants to become a chess Grandmaster.
Rylan Sievers wants to be a lawyer, Eleanor Wallace aspires to be a chef and Mia Morgan would like to be an Olympic gymnast or, failing that, design dresses.
Ava Hoskins wants to work in childcare while Portia Ahwang wants to teach and Kydan Brand wants to look after everyone’s teeth as a dentist.
Brolga Sports Captain
Leading Brolga are its sports captains Jett Thompson and Isabelle O’Neill, whom apparently will be attending the police academy together as they both seek to start careers in law enforcement.
Jabiru Sports Captain
Jabiru is lucky to have Oliva Schweitzer and Harmony Wutai-Davis as it’s captains.
Kingfisher Sports Captain
The Kingfisher sports captains, Jay Howarth and Reid Biggs, both have sporting ambitions as Jay would like to become the captain of the Australian cricket team and Reid wants to play in the NRL.
Eagle Sports Captain
The Eagle sports captains, Halle Robertson and Evan Chapman, want to look after animals as a zoo keeper and play basketball in the Olympics respectively.
Sports Monitors
Monitoring the sports contests of Norris Rd are Mackenzie Mercer who wants to become a miner, Leela Morgan who is seeking a career in the NRL, Gabriella Jung who wants to become an eyelash technician and Zed Wooley who also wants to play in the NRL.
Seaforth State School
Leading the students of Seaforth State School is Charley-Rose Ward who wants to become a hairdresser.
Sharing the position with Charley-Rose and leading Finlayson House is Laura van Tienhoven who wants to become a teacher.
Leading McBryde House is Alexia Horsford who either wants to join the Queensland Police Service or become a PE teacher.
St Anne’s Catholic Primary School
School Captains
Lucas - When I grow up, I would like to be a butcher.
Lucy - When I grow up, I want to be an environmental lawyer or a teacher.
Coolock House Captains
Lizzie - When I grow up, I want to finish high school, go to university to become a doctor, then open my own clinic in Mackay.
Hudson - When I grow up, I am not sure what I want to do, it is a tough decision.
McAuley House Captains
Indee - When I grow up, I would like to be a professional basketball player.
Dustan - When I grow up, I would like to be a footy player.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School
School Captains
Ryder Reynolds and Kalani van Lint are the school captains of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and when they grow up, Ryder wants to own his own construction company and Kalani wants to own a business.
Vice Captains
Vice-captain Zander Otto wants to work at an earthworks company and is interested in “operating big machines”.
Jaylah Breayley wants to take her leadership skills to the netball court as a professional netball player.
Student Ministry
William Lenz in the student ministry team wants to work as an engineer or architect and design or construct buildings.
Also in the ministry team is Joshua Sadural, who wants to work in IT.
Social Justice
The social justice team is headed by Georgie Duncan and Sophia Zammit, both of whom want to serve the public, Georgie as a teacher and Sophia as a doctor.
Cultural Leaders
The culture team is led by Lacey Cheyne, who wants to be a doctor or have a successful singing career, and Nikol Sutherland who wants to become an artist.
Iluka White Captains
Leading Iluka White is Flynn Pace, who wants to be an NRL player, and Aylee Proberts who isn’t quite sure what she wants to be yet.
Eungella Green Captains
The Eungella Green captains are Brady Vassallo, who wants to be an electrical engineer and Isabelle, who wants to work as an barista at a cafe.
Illawong Blue Captains
The captains of Illawong Blue are Sefton Tass and Riley Hanson and both want to become professional athletes.
Valkyrie State School
Jaxon Parmenter is ready to go with the flow, saying “where ever life takes me” when asked what he wants to be when he grows up.
Pater Comiskey wants to train dogs or work as a contract muster.
Victoria Park State School
School Captains:
Victoria Park State School captain Sienna Elworthy wants to be a business owner when she grows up.
Zarli Turnbull, another of the Victoria Park State School captains, wants to go into education after she graduates school and become a kindergarten teacher.
School captain Patrick McGahan wants to be a pilot when he grows up.
Victoria Park State School captain Zoe Parker wants to become a food scientist and feed the world.

Leading Victoria Park’s Mercury House in sports is Harvey Geeves, who wants to become a WNBA player.
Also leading Mercury House is Addison Satinie who wants to become a police officer.
Neptune House:
On the Neptune House sports leadership team is Nevaeh Collins who wants to be a lawyer.
Working with Nevaeh is Harry Brodie, who wants to become a professional rugby union player.
Jupiter House:
Leading Jupiter House is Tate Smith, who wants to go and work for Multitech and Indy Townson.
Walkerston State School
School Captains
The School Captains of Walkerston State School are Chloe, who wants to work in medicine or science, and Brayden who wants to build houses as a carpenter.
Vice Captains
Alia and Abigail are the vice-captains of Walkerston State School and both want to pursue careers in the creative industries when they’re older.
Alia wants to be a dancer and share her passion for dance with others, while Abigail wants to be an author.
Cultural Captains
Representing the cultural pursuits of Walkerston State School is Ayla and Rosalie
Ayla would like to coach gymnastics or become a beautician while Rosalie would like to be a photographer, programmer, receptionist or real estate agent.
Fadden House captains
Leading Fadden House is Ella, who wants to be a hairdresser and Sybella who wants to be a fashion designer.
Ross House captains
The Ross House captain’s are Carley and Sienna.
Carley wants to be a photographer when she grows up, but is also interested in interior design or possibly working with animals.
Sienna wants to be a hairdresser when she grows up.
Treacy House captains
Leading Treacy House is Madison, who wants to be a teacher or nurse, and Beau who wants to play football in the NRL.
