Matt and Nic Grant launch Fry Daze seafood truck in Mackay

Two brothers are bringing a New South Wales food truck to a new home in North Queensland and are promising the best fish and chips in town.
Brothers Matthew and Nic Grant bought the Fry Daze fish and chips shop after the old owners sold it in 2023.
The two travelled down to Eden, NSW and brought the truck to its new home at the Discovery Caravan Park on Harbour Rd.
Matthew said the idea to buy the truck came one day when he and his brother were drinking and saw the truck was for sale.
“We thought ‘f--k it, why not?’,” Mr Grant said.
“We bought it and decided to kick it off with a whole new menu and a range of different options.”
The new truck, while continuing Fry Daze’s classic fish and chips also offers burgers, wraps and sangas.
“Basically anything you see in a fish and chip shop we do exactly the same,” he said.
Running their kitchen is a star chef holding more than 40 years of experience in fish and chips shop and bringing her own secret recipes to the fore.
“She’s the bomb,” he said.
“I can almost guarantee we have the best fish and chips in town.”
Mr Grant’s recommendations are the red throat emperor or coral trout, battered of course.
The food truck will be operating out of the Discovery Caravan park for the rest of the school holidays, but the Grant’s are planning to appear at a number of different locations across the region, as well as appearances at events.
“Any occasion we’ll be there,” Mr Grant said.
“It’s fully equipped with everything needed.
“It’s the same as a kitchen.”
The Fry Daze team said that as the business grows so will their hours and menus and asks for patience during the initial launch period.
Fry Daze is open from 2pm until 7.30pm from Wednesdays to Sundays.
