Man suffers critical injuries in Marian workplace incident

A man in his 20s has been critically injured in what has been reported as a workplace explosion at a regional Qld town.

Workplace Health and Safety is investigating after a man in his 20s was critically injured at a family-run mechanics at Marian in the Mackay region.

The incident has shocked nearby residents.

It is understood the young man was in the process of removing the head of a drum when the incident occurred.

Paramedics were called to Ace Mining Services on Anzac Ave about 2.17pm Monday following reports of a small explosion onsite.

As a result a man in his 20s, believed to be the son of the business owner, was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries.

WHS Queensland confirmed they were investigating the incident.

Investigators were late Monday inspecting the site.
