An audible crack could be heard from the intersection of Nebia Coningsby Rd and Maraju Yakapari Rd, as a piece of car floats down the creek.
The sound came from a miserable looking Mazda 3 hatchback, its journey ended in the middle of a fast moving waterway outside of Mackay.
Four hours after Valentines Day ended, at 4am on the 15th of February, 2024, a male driver in his 30s, crashed his car into a tree, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed.
Paramedics were called to the scene at around 4:15am where they found the driver who had sustained head and back injuries, in a stable condition.
He was then transported to the Mackay Base Hospital.
The car trajectory appeared to be coming from a nearby field where tire marks could be observed leading to the creek bed.
It appears that the car was pushed by the waters from it’s initial resting place, up against the bridge that spans the waterway.
According to a Queensland Police Spokesman the raised river levels of the creek made it impossible for Police to approach the vehicle and apply a police aware sticker on it.
This accident comes as rainfall across Mackay raises the levels of waterways and floods some country roads, including the Marian-Eton Rd.
