Man in custody after police car collides with suspected stolen ute in North Mackay

UPDATE 2.50PM: Police are investigating whether a suspected stolen ute involved in a collision with police at North Mackay was linked to a ram raid of a Mackay business on Tuesday night.
A police spokesman said patrolling officers spotted the ute, believed to be stolen, and deployed a tyre deflation device, or stingers, near the intersection of Holts Rd and Mackay Bucasia Rd about 10am Wednesday.
A marked police 4WD had minor panel damage to the front of the vehicle and was stopped a short distance from the back of the ute.
A man was arrested at the scene.
About 11pm Tuesday, thieves used a ute to smash their way into a Mackay business, Bullet Bikes, and steal two motorbikes.
A police spokesman said investigations were continuing.
INITIAL 10.45AM: A police car has collided with a suspected stolen ute after it was seen driving through North Mackay.
A police spokesman said patrolling officers spotted the ute, believed to be stolen, and deployed a tyre deflation device, or stingers, near the intersection of Holts Rd and Mackay Bucasia Rd about 10am.
The ute struck the stingers and veered off the road, stopping in the median strip on Holts Rd.
A marked police 4WD had minor panel damage to the front of the vehicle and was stopped a short distance from the back of the ute.
The spokesman said a man was arrested at the scene. No officers were injured in the incident.
The spokesman said investigations were continuing and would probe where and when the ute was reported stolen.
He said it was unclear if the ute was connected to overnight incidents including a ram-raid on Bullet Bikes in the Mackay CBD.
