A woman has been critically injured after four vehicles collided outside a mine on the Peak Downs Highway at Strathfield southwest of Mackay.
The accident happened at the South Walker Creek Mine turn-off on Fitzroy Development Rd just after 5pm.
According to the Queensland Fire Department, one person was entrapped in a vehicle.
“One person was encapsulated,” the spokesman said.
“They’ve been extricated from the vehicle and are in the hands of QAS.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said four people were assessed at the scene, three men and a woman.
The woman suffered significant abdominal and leg injuries and was transported to Mackay Base Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
As of midday on Friday, she is in a stable condition at the hospital.
Two men with minor injuries were transported stable to the hospital, and a fourth person was uninjured.
Stanmore purchased the mine from BHP in 2022.
