Mr Smith said his interest in popular music was sparked by listening to records at his Aunty's house in the 50s - back when battery-powered or 'wireless' radios were expensive.
"She had a record player and heaps of records including 78s and 45 singles," Mr Smith said.
" … I remember my dad saying one time, 'You'll wear those records into coil springs if you play them any more. And now I play those same songs on my weekly radio show."
The showbroadcasts from midday to 2pm each Tuesday on the community-run 4CRM Mackay station on 107.5MHZ.
Mr Smith said people can also tune in via 4crm.com.au and clicking on the Listen Live button.
