David Casey, 58, is part of one of Mackay’s well-known families that have been involved in politics for decades and has left a mark on the Mackay community, including the Edmund Casey Bridge which was named after his uncle’s.

But David has a pretty different opinion about how to leave your mark in the world.

He is fine with the idea that his book is just going to be another one on the unending list of books we can choose from at the library, not revolutionary or very big like a bridge, but it still needs to exist so we can all have “a little bit of fun”.

When talking about what led him to write his book, where he shares his memories and mindset about the world, David said he has travelled all over the place and “just sat down over the years and written stuff on Facebook” that people would think funny.

“People have said you’re doing good, you’re doing some funny things so put it in print,” he said.

“The world can be a pretty sh-tty place at times, if this can make them laugh for the 10, 15, or 20 minutes they read the story, well then in that 15-20 minutes the world is a far better place,” David said.

Part of the back cover reads: “Memories of weathered-old hands, on a bar of soap and a nine year-old tongue, as well as one man’s struggle to maintain a peace between waring factions in the backyard. Add the bowel movements habits or our four-legged friends and you have just the sample of the thoughts and mind workings that make up the The Chronicles of Case: An ordinary Aussie bloke.

David said he had just received the first version of the book recently and that he would be printing 500 copies that would be distributed in a couple of locations around Mackay.

The book will be launched on December 2 at the West Leagues Club from 2pm.
