A LEAGUE of health and fitness professionals have joined forces, creating a free program to help Mackay kids keep active at home.
‘Pandemic PE’ features videos made with the help of kids and focused on fitness, sport-specific skills, yoga and nutritional advice for children of all ages.
It was launched by Mackay’s Marc Newman – paramedic, performance coach and nutritionist – and physical education teacher and sports coach Dave Evans, together with yoga and meditation teacher Maddy Edwards.
Mr Evans said he was passionate about helping young children and the program was their way of giving back to the community.
“It’s all about getting kids healthy, active and motivated during isolation,” he said.
Mr Newman has experience working with children to maximise their potential through improved nutrition and mindset, while Ms Edwards was keen to share her love for yoga and wellness with kids, to help “develop their awareness, acceptance, compassion and mindfulness”.
Keeley Dixon, 12, said it had been “really fun” being involved in producing the videos.
“They’re exercises you can do at home,” Keeley said.
“You don’t really need any equipment, which is one of the great things … definitely go on and have a try.”
