The search to find the best Christmas light display of 2024 has officially come to a close in the Mackay-Whitsundays, with one home coming out on top as the most festive of them all.

Jordan McQueen’s has opened her North Mackay home to the public every Christmas for years in a stunning extravaganza, providing the community with a fun and interactive festive walk through.

This isn’t just your regular Christmas lights display, visitors to the home can expect snow, scavenger hunts, competitions, and even the odd visit from Santa and the Grinch.

Putting on the display takes a huge effort from the whole family, taking three months to set up and two weeks to dismantle.

“My mum sets all the Christmas trees up and does all the pretty, fiddly sort of stuff, and my dad holds the ladders and builds the frames and smashes in the star pickets and tent pegs and I set up all the lights,” said Jordan.

While the display in its current form has been running for the last five years, Jordan said she developed a love for putting lights up for Christmas in primary school.

“I just love Christmas in general and when I was in, I think maybe grade six or seven, I asked my parents if we could get some Christmas lights and my dad and mum said, sure, after Christmas we’ll buy you a set of lights and then you can put them up the year after,” she said.

“So they agreed that we could do a set of lights, one set a year, and then when I was finished school and had my own job, I was able to pay for my own lights.

“As a family we all love Christmas, we one day just realised, wow, we have a lot of lights, we can actually register our house for people to look at and enjoy it as well, so that’s what we did.”

Jordan said her favourite part of the display each year is all of the beautiful lights, but this year’s addition of a Grinch section took things to another level even including a life sized motion sensor Grinch.

“He’s just a cool addition and something different that you don’t see around town,” she said.

Visitors to the home can look forward to something different next year with all new theming already planned for the next two years.

“I don’t give away too much, I just let everyone know that it’s different so they have something to look forward to and try and figure out what’s new and what’s different,” said Jordan.

People wanting to check out the display this year can head to 8 Orion Avenue, North Mackay.
