A SKATE park, basketball court, BBQ area and dog park are among some of the new facilities planned for Camilleri Street District Park.
Council will begin work on stages one and two of the park masterplan in May, with the project scheduled to be completed by November.
The project will double the size of the popular Blacks Beach Park, making it the biggest and most diverse park in the Northern Beaches.
Councillor Ayril Paton said upgrades would meet the needs of the growing Northern Beaches area.
"With about 1080 families living in the area, there is strong demand for improved recreational facilities in the Northern Beaches,” he said.
"The upgrades will build on existing infrastructure, such as the current playground, while catering to a wider range of ages.
"Community feedback, which was gathered over the last year-and-a-half, has helped guide the direction of the final concept design.
"We are looking forward to delivering something the whole community can enjoy and will be proud to have in their backyard.”
New additions to the park also include:
- Youth hub
- New public amenities
- Boardwalk and footpath connectivity from Barber Drive to Camilleri Street car park
- Additional shelters, an electric BBQ, picnic tables and bench seat
- Water bubbler and rubbish bins
