Two big top tents loom over the Mackay Showgrounds as animals are rounded up and white makeup applied.
The circus has come to town.
Hudsons Circus, started over 11 years ago by owner Shane Lennon and his wife, is a coalition of acrobats, jugglers and animal handlers from around the world putting on their show for Mackay from April 18 to 28 before moving onto Airlie Beach.
“We’ve got a great show for you,” Mr Lennon said.
Mr Lennon promises fantastic trapeze acts, “crazy” Brazilian and Peruvian motorcyclists trying their luck on the Globe of Death and a gigantic slinky act that “you have to see to believe”.
Also performing are the acrobatic disc flipping dogs which charmed the Australia’s Got Talent judges in 2019 and joined the circus in 2022.
But for Mr Lennon the dancing ponies are the act that’s closest to his heart.
Tickets are on sale and start at $15 for children and $30 for adults, besides the show visitors can enjoy the sideshow alley with games and rides.
