A new Mackay business run by a husband and wife team is promising to make its clients dreams come true while solving the housing crisis.

Home building franchise Stroud Homes is expanding into Mackay-Whitsundays from the southern corner, following its international move into New Zealand.

Trent Deen is a director of Stroud Homes Mackay, and said they want to build people’s dream homes as far south as Saint Lawrence and as far north as Airlie Beach.

“To me building with integrity is everything,” Mr Deen said.

Mr Deen has been with Stroud Homes’ Yeppoon and Rockhampton franchises as a supervisor for over four years, after working as a carpenter and being trained as an electrician.

Tessa Deen, Trent’s partner, is trained as an interior designer and will also be handling administration and contracts.

For now it’s just the two of them, but they have a full team of local contractors ready to get to work once they officially launch on May 4.

The two expect to hit the ground running as they already receive over three enquiries a week, with that number growing in the build up to their grand opening.

“We’ve been bombarded with enquiries because the product is so sound,” Trent said.

“People trust it and if they’re moving here from down south they’ve seen it before.”

Their office also acts as a display room for potential clients, showing a model kitchen and bathroom in the main space, with colour and tile samples in another room.

Also joining the couple in the office is their welcoming committee and extremely friendly pet labradoodle, Arlo.

In their first year the two are expecting to build between 10 – 15 houses, but after they’ve established themselves, aim to build up to 50 a year.

However, the transition has not come without its difficulties.

“Mackay is more expensive than Rockhampton for materials,” Trent said.

“Generally speaking Mackay is in a grey midpoint between Townsville and Brisbane.

“Rockhampton is generally the cut off for cheaper freight.”

However this hasn’t deterred the two, who firmly believe they can meet demand for housing in Mackay.

“I don’t think you can have too many builders,” Trent said.

“We sold our home by the Fitzroy to come here and start our dream.

“We want to build a home you’d want for your mum, your dad or your grandparents, and do it with pride.”

Stroud Homes Mackay is located at Shop 7, 134 Victoria St.
