Police have revealed there have been four break-ins and five vehicles stolen in Mackay since the new year started.
Between 3am and 4am this morning, a person broke into a home on Lugano Mews in Andergrove using implements on locked doors.
The intruder entered the kitchen to steal two sets of car keys, one for a red-coloured 2013 model Ford Ranger and the other one for a white-coloured 2017 model Hyundai Tucson station wagon.
At about the same time in Slade Point, a person broke into a home on Rosella St.
Entry was gained to the home through the rear doors and the intruder took car keys that were on a bench.
The person also took a handbag and cash before leaving with the white-coloured 2014 model Hyundai I30 hatchback.
This comes as six separate businesses were broken into over the Christmas break, which resulted in the theft of two vehicles.
On January 1, a 2011 model silver-coloured Volkswagen Jetta sedan was stolen from a park near the boat ramp of the Mackay Harbour.
Police said the car was unlocked with keys present in the cabin at the time.
On January 3, a home on Cosford Drive in Eimeo was broken into, with an intruder gaining entry through the garage to steal a white-coloured Ford utility.
Police said the person caused damage to a retaining wall while reversing the car.
Police are urging car owners to store keys in secure and out of sight locations within the home, especially during night-time hours.
