Six Mackay businesses broken into over Christmas break, cars stolen

Six separate businesses were broken into over the past two days, resulting in the theft of a utility vehicle and a motorcycle.

Unnamed businesses in Mackay, Mount Pleasant, Paget and Mackay Harbour were robbed, with a police notice stating entry was gained to each by forcing a locked door or roller door.

A Paget business on Archibald St was broken into via a roller door between 6:00pm on December 26 and 8:00am on December 27, where a blue coloured 2007 model Yamaha YZF 450 trail bike without a licence plate attached was stolen.

Anyone with information about the location of the stolen motorcycle or the break-in itself is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible by referring to report number QP2302160199.

The same police notice stated a further two break-ins at Paget were reported to police at businesses on East Boundary Rd and Margaret Vella Drive.

Another occurred between 4.30pm on December 27 and 6am on December 28 at a business on Mount Bassett Cemetery Rd, Mackay Harbour.

“Once inside a search resulted in the location of keys and these were used to steal a white coloured 2017 model Mitsubishi triton utility, registration number 841 XZQ which was parked nearby,” Mackay police stated.

Anyone who might have information about the location of the stolen utility is encouraged to contact police and refer to report number QP2302164970.

Another occurred between 8:55 and 9:01pm on December 27 at a business on Brisbane St where two men allegedly vandalised property in a staff meal area.

Images of the men were captured on CCTV cameras, but police stated nothing was confirmed as stolen.

Members of the public with information about them or the break-in are urged to contact police, referring to report number QP2302167451.

A 29-year-old North Mackay man has then allegedly broken into a business on Phillip St in Mount Pleasant at 4am on December 28.

“It’s alleged the intruder has entered the business and searched throughout the complex before entering other businesses inside,” police stated.

“It’s also alleged the male intruder was located by a security officer and police were contacted (who) subsequently arrested (the intruder).”

The man has been charged with three counts of entering a premises as well as committing wilful damage, and will face Mackay Magistrates Court on February 5.
