Two urban fire crews and rural firefighters raced to the West St, Marian building after receiving the call about 10.30am.
It is not known which building was evacuated, but there is a PCYC is on the short street.
Firefighters searched for the source of the smoke, focusing on the roof of the building, but found not fire.
It is understood an electrician has been called.
There have been no injuries reported.
