A grassfire that broke out between Illawong Road and Petrie Street in East Mackay was contained by fire crews on Friday afternoon.
Fireys were able to turn the blaze into a controlled backburn of the area bordering Mackay Airport.
Queensland Fire and Emergency reported the area was a known illegal dumping site.
Authorities were called to the Illawong Beach Resort in February 2019 to investigate a “suspicious substance, possibly chemical related”.
When asked for comment, police said they were not treating the fire as suspicious at this point.
