A new childcare centre has been approved on a block of land originally zoned for residential homes on the northside of Mackay.

Mackay Regional Council has granted Eden Academy’s application to build a 108-place childcare centre at 2 Jackman Court, Beaconsfield.

The corner block in Kerrisdale also faces Norwood Parade and Golf Links Road and is situated next door to the Norths Devils Leagues Club.

With 29 carpark spaces, the academy features eight rooms with 12 spaces for children aged 0-12 months, 12 for children 12-24 months, 40 spots for children between two and three, and 44 spaces for those aged three to five.

There are also three dedicated outdoor play areas with a combined 792sq m, a pram room, bike parking, kitchen, staffroom, yoga room, and a reception area with a library.

Eden Academy, self described as “revolutionising childcare” stated it offered “holistic” education and was “dedicated to fostering mindfulness into little beings”.

“We pride ourselves on being so much more than a childcare facility,” its website stated.

“We’re here to spark the imagination, set foundations for compassionate friendships and create environments that inspire the very best from the inside out.”

The academy stated it used an “abundance of local produce” to provide nutritious meals and used childhood experts such as nutritionists, speech pathologists, child physiotherapists and occupational therapists to help with children's growth.

It also offers morning tea sessions for families plus take home family dinners.

The Beaconsfield centre will operate from 6.30am to 6.30pm from Monday to Friday and is not permitted to open on public holidays.

Eden Academy also has a separate application before the council to build a centre another centre at 33 Arana Drive in Rural View.

The business currently has childcare facilities in Gold Coast, Brisbane and Eastern Sydney with another five under construction across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
