Moranbah Debutante Ball 2022: Modern flair for classy tradition
Moranbah’s debutantes added a touch of modernity to the traditional ceremony as young women were presented to society.

Moranbah’s debutantes have been challenged to think about what legacy they wanted to leave as they were presented to society in the traditional ball with a modern twist.
The 21 young women were escorted and presented at the 45th Moranbah Debutante Ball on April 2, marking their formal entry into society.
Deb Ball co-ordinator Judy Naumann said the fuchsia, white and black decor transformed Moranbah Community Centre for the ball which Neil Wicks compered.
The couples were presented to Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker and greeted on stage by Ian Richards.
“For their first formal dance, the debutantes and their partners performed the swing waltz,” Mrs Naumann said.
“Bringing a modern twist to the night, the debutantes did their version of Grease’s You’re the One that I Want.
“The partners then shone with their version of the Bee Gees’ Staying Alive.”
Mrs Baker encouraged the debutantes and their partners to “take the time to reflect and focus” on how they saw their futures.
“The deb is a tradition that connects us to the past and binds our community for the future,” she said.
“I ask our debutantes and partners to think about what traditions do you want to pass on?
“What life do you want to lead and what legacy do you want to leave?”
Jorjya Gostelow and Davis Iraia cut the debutante cake and Shayla Campbell spoke on behalf the debutantes and their partners.
To complete the formal part of the evening, the debs performed the Pride of Erin.
The Debutantes and Partners Dance Card included the Gypsy Tap, the Barn Dance, the Canadian three step, the cha-cha, the Jive and the Friendship Waltz.
Family and friends joined the debutantes and their partners on the dance floor with gusto.
Syd Stickley and his Band Hot 3 again proved a big hit with the 250 patrons young and old.
Krystal Brown was the official photographer this year and the corsages and lapel flower were supplied by Moranbah Blooms and Events.
