Mackay is hosting a free workshop for farmers to learn how to assess their own sustainability footprint and tap in to government support and funding.
The Unveil Strategies for On-Farm ESG Integration workshop is open to canegrowers as well as other landholders and focuses on improving drought resilience and tackling sustainability at a grassroots level.
It is thanks to a partnership between government-funded The Tropical North Queensland Drought Hub and the Mackay-based Reef Catchments crew.
“Addressing sustainability challenges has become a critical issue for Australian producers,” TNQ’s senior research officer Ana Leite De Almeida said.
Reef Catchments drought resilience officer Carlos Bueno said the workshop’s broader aim was to “decrease inputs whilst increasing agricultural output”.
The session is part of a broader campaign that will be rolled out across Queensland into next year.
The event takes place from 8.30am to 1pm on December 4 and you must register to attend via Eventbrite.
Mr Bueno’s said the workshop complemented the success already achieved under the Best Management Practices Smart Cane program, with 42 per cent of Queensland canegrowers having opted in.
