Mackay’s Illuminate events are among the most anticipated on the region’s social calendar, with fans young and old marvelling at the incredible lighting transformations.
Paths we walk every day become something so much more as the clever light shows brighten dull corners and open our imaginations.
And each year the spectacles seem to get bigger and better every year but we’ve been debating which year is the best year.
We thought we would put it to the vote and see what you think.
There’s the big animals in the 2019 light show, spread all over the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.
Then we obviously skipped 2020 thanks to Covid playing havoc with all events.
But 2021 we wandered down the Bluewater Trail from the lagoon down to the Forgan Bridge in hourly slots with lots of hanging light art, a children’s play section and other light displays.
While they have all been amazing, the 2022 DBCT Illuminate in Queens Park could well be the best with the light display just incredible.
The fairy lights, dog park and jellyfish were terrific but the light projections on the palm trees and other foliage in the park was breathtaking.
Unfortunately many missed out on seeing this year’s show thanks to wet weather on the Saturday and Sunday night but it was still a huge success on the nights it did run.
It was basically the opener for Mackay Festival of Arts for 2022 with the wonder rooms now the attraction this week.
