An unspecified threat shut down the Mackay Northern Beaches State High School on Thursday morning but the police have confirmed the threat was not legitimate.
A Queensland Police spokesman said police attended the Rural View educational facility about 8.30am following reports of a threat being made.
“A search of the premises was subsequently conducted and the area deemed safe,” the spokesman said.
“It has since been verified the threat was not legitimate.
“There was no harm to students or staff who were managed off site.
“The facility is now operational again.”
The school was shut from 8.30am to about 11am.
The school alerted the public to the incident via a Facebook post at 9.16am.
“An incident is taking place at school,” the post reads.
“Police are present and in control of the situation. Students are all accounted for and safe. Updates will be provided when we know more.”
In the comments section of the post, three members of the public suggested a bomb threat caused the shutdown.
A Queensland Department of Education spokesman said the school followed the department’s protocol for responding to threats.
“Parents and caregivers were informed of the situation,” the spokesman said.
“Guidance officer support is available for any students who may require it.”
