Most people have looked into the vastness of the ocean and wondered about sea monsters at least once in their lives.
At the very least, the mystery of the Bermuda triangle has surely raised a few hairs.
But fortunately for Mackay residents, the answers to those puzzles are now just around the corner as the Queensland Museum heads hits the road to talk all things science.
Attendees can explore their ‘local megafauna and sea monsters’ using interactive technology while hearing from some of Australia’s own palaeontologists and geologists.
A free community event Unearthed! will be held on Sunday August 1 across the grounds of the MECC from 9am until 3.30pm.
Families will be able to ‘battle it out’ in Minecraft competitions with Splitspaces and STEM Punks to create the most sustainable mine.
They can also explore new worlds through XR, Augmented and Mixed Realities and step into the shoes of a palaeontologist to discover The Crazy World of Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters.
For a deeper dive into the Queensland Museum program, two additional events have been scheduled for a small fee.
Dr Karl for Kids will take place from 9am til 10am on Sunday August 1 where the audience can get the answers to some of life's greatest mysteries like the Bermuda Triangle.
Dr Karl will also explain why it’s safer for a cat to fall out of a 32 storey building than a 7 storey building, why wombats poo about 90 little cubes each day and how Pterodactyls were not actually the four-legged flying dinosaurs we’ve been lead to believe.
Grown-ups and children aged 13 and up can also get their one-one with Australia’s favourite science guru.
Extreme Moments of Science with Dr Karl will take place on Saturday July 31 from 7pm until 8.30pm where the audience will be whipped around through scientific landscapes from the sublime moments of deep thought to the arcane and bizarre.
