Boy transported to Mackay Hospital after near drowning at Hamilton Island

A helicopter rescue crew has flown to a popular Whitsundays tourist destination after a young boy was found ‘unresponsive’ and nearly drowned at the bottom of a main resort pool

A four-year-old boy has nearly drowned after he was found “unresponsive” at the bottom of a resort pool on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the incident occurred just after 1pm.

An RACQ CQ Rescue Service tweet states the boy was found “unresponsive” and pulled from the “main resort pool” on the island.

It added a helicopter crew flew the boy and his mother to Mackay hospital.

The QAS spokesman said the boy was in a stable condition and would undergo further treatment.
