Mackay’s dreams of ALDI are gradually coming true with each day of busied construction but just around the corner is the keenly anticipated Guzman y Gomez.
Officially getting the nod from Mackay Regional Council in February this year, it can be revealed construction is hoped to start in October subject to approvals.
SLR Consulting Australia, on behalf of Guzman y Gomez Leasing, has applied to the council to begin operational works for the store which will be built within the carpark at Mount Pleasant Centre, next to the existing KFC.
Once built, the GYG store will be open 24/7 with a dual lane drive-through for 14 cars.
It is understood Guzman y Gomez Leasing is aiming to open its 282sq m Mackay store open by April or May 2024.
Documents lodged to council show the store will result in a net reduction of 66 carparking spaces at the shopping centre.
