Mackay council promises to fix Glenella-Richmond Rd potholes

Less than six months since a long closure for works to get it up to scratch, a busy thoroughfare connecting the Northern Beaches to Mackay will again undergo repairs.

A busy thoroughfare that slashes commutes from the Northern Beaches to Mackay will be resurfaced, less than six months after a major upgrade.

Works to fix sections of Glenella-Richmond Rd are under way in a renewed push to repair the surface once and for all.

The council shut the road last year for upgrades, but Mayor Greg Williamson acknowledged sections of the bitumen road sealing had failed because of moisture and heat conditions.

“Council will asphalt all of the chip seal sections of Glenella-Richmond Road to give this important rural road an entire asphalt surface,” he said.

“This will fix the potholing which has occurred.

“We look forward to having this road surface resolved for motorists and appreciate their understanding and patience.”

The council expects to finish the work by the end of this week.

About 2500 motorists used the Glenella-Richmond Road before its closure in August last year.

The current state of the road, described by one motorist as “the worst in Mackay”, offers an alternative route to Mackay-Bucasia Rd.
