A unique partnership with an elite sports team is bringing a childcare centre to Mackay that promises to be “like no other” with a Lego room, Zen garden and two-storey playspace.
Kool Beanz Academy has begun construction on its first childcare facility in the region at 86Juliet St, opposite the Harrup Park Country Club.
Kool Beanz owner Bruce Coulson said the centre, the first of four to be built in Mackay, will also feature an art studio, STEM room, library, and “beautiful natural play spaces”.
He said the childcare centre would also offer Japanese and music teaching as a way to reach beyond the traditional early years’ learning experience.
“I can't tell you how excited I am,” Mr Coulson said.
“We are stopping all our production back in the Gold Coast and all our concentration now is through Mackay”.
Mr Coulson added that once Harrup Park was opened, Kool Beanz was planning to build a further centre at West Mackay, Glenella and another Mackay region location yet to be revealed.
The Kool Beanz Academy Harrup Park centre will also offer a fun twist for the junior sports fans.
Mr Coulson, who is the number one ticket holder for the Gold Coast Suns, said the centre would feature AFL goalposts at the entrance, and team memorabilia inside.
It builds on the ongoing relationship between the Mackay Regional Council and the GC Suns AFLW team, which regularly plays matches at the Great Barrier Reef Arena next to the Harrup Park Country Club.
Mayor Greg Williamson recently announced the council would extend its partnership with the GC Suns for another three years in a bid to continue developing Mackay as the sporting hub of regional Queensland.
The partnership is funded through the council’s Invest Mackay Events and Conference Attraction program which has brought the likes of the AFLW, Women’s Big Bash League, and Rumble on the Reef to the Mackay region.
Mr Williamson said it is expected the Kool Beanz Harrup Park centre will generate almost 120 jobs once it opens, adding the region was in need of high quality childcare options.
“This is a fantastic outcome for a long-term investment for us,” Mr Williamson said.
“Child care, quality childcare, modern childcare and inclusive child care is critical for our development as a community.”
