Gossip Nails salon opens in Northern Beaches Central

Having never set foot in Queensland, Janet Pham took a leap of faith moving her family Mackay to help her mother open the new Northern Beaches Gossip Nails salon.

Janet Pham and her husband Huy Lam had never set foot in Queensland when they decided to move their family to Mackay help Mrs Pham’s mother Mia Nguyen open a nail salon in the Northern Beaches.

The trip up was challenging for the family as they faced the state’s drastic rainy season for the first time.

“Our car was nearly flooded,” Mr Lam said.

“We had to take detours, it added an extra 500km to the trip — it ended up being a bit of an adventure.”

Despite the bumpy start from Maitland in NSW, Mr Lam said his family had already fallen in love with Mackay, and were feeling the love in return.

“We love it, the weather and the people are just great, it’s awesome,” he said.

“We have felt a lot support from other businesses,” Mr Lam said.

His wife and mother-in-law’s highly anticipated salon Gossip Nails officially opened on Monday in Northern Beaches Central.

“There’s been a buzz in the Northern Beaches,” Mr Lam said.

“All the husbands are trying to buy gift vouchers for their wives already.”

The salon, which will specialise in nails and waxing, is offering a 20 per cent discount for the first treatments throughout September.

It will be the second store for Mrs Pham, but the first that she and her mother will run together.

“I have more than 12 years experience, and my mum has been doing nails for about six,” Mrs Pham said.

“It’s an exciting mother-daughter team.”
