AFTER more than 45 years, the Mackay City cinema is closing its doors permanently.

The decision was revealed in an email to Event Cinemas subscribers this afternoon.

The email outlined that BCC Cinemas Mackay City would close after the last sessions on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

“We’ve been showing movies at BCC Cinemas Mackay City since 1972 so this decision was not made lightly,” BCC Cinemas said.

“Together we have shared more than 45 years of magical movie moments, first dates, family outings, birthday celebrations, romantic anniversaries, huge belly-laughs, exciting adventures and nightmarish scary scenes – and we’ve loved every minute.”

BCC said it had a strong commitment to keep reinvesting in BCC Cinemas Mackay North, which features sx modern stadium cinemas including wall-to-wall screens.

“BCC Cinemas Mackay North will continue to bring customers the latest blockbusters and arthouse movies from around the globe, along with festivals and special events from the worlds of music, theatre, arts, sport and e-sport,” the company said.

“Our promise to provide exceptional movie experiences in Mackay is stronger than ever and we truly appreciate the community’s ongoing support.”
