Opening its first Mackay branch on September 27, Bob’s Bulk Booze has a “Beat Down Guarantee” promising best prices to customers able to prove an item’s lower price elsewhere
Bob’s is owned by Australian publican Steven Shoobridge, managing director and CEO of Star Hotel Group’s more than 100 different businesses.
“It’s the largest independent retailer in Queensland”, said Mr Franettovich.
“So basically Steven Shoobridge (set) up Bob’s as our way to compete and keep Dan Murphy’s honest.
“The nationals, like Woolies and Coles, have a lot of control over everything.
“If you can prove to us that instore there’s a better price, then we will beat that.
“Keep all the other mobs in town honest and just make sure that everybody gets a fair go of it – especially customers.
“Bob is a man of the people.”
This is just the sixth Bob’s in Queensland, with two outlets in Rockhampton, two in Brisbane, and one in Townsville.
Having grown up “along Paradise Street”, Mr Franettovich said Mackay had always been home despite moving south to pursue music at 18.
He said the business offered him career pathways after returning in 2020 and a lot of customers were excited to see “somebody new on the block”.
“A lot of people who travel throughout Queensland have seen it in Rocky (or) Townsville”, he said
“They’re really excited to have a Bob’s here in Mackay. “Everybody just says ‘Bob’s your uncle’ constantly.”
