Bruce Highway closed between Ilbilbie and Koumala

Emergency crews have responded to two separate incidents to the south and west of Mackay that resulted in two major highways being blocked. DETAILS

The Bruce Highway is closed in both directions between Ilbilbie and Koumala and delays are expected.

Paramedics are treating a teen girl for burns after a truck caught fire south of Mackay.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

Queensland Police were called to the incident at 2.26pm today.

The incident occurred close to Riley Rd.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said while the truck had caught fire, it was not believed to be have been caused by a crash.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman said four crews were in attendance working to put out the truck fire.

It is understood the fire had also spread to nearby grassland, with crews working to put out the subsequent grassfire as well.

The cause of the truck fire is unknown at this stage.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman none of the truck’s occupants sustained major injuries.

She said a female in her early teens sustained burns to her right hand, while a man in his 60s sustained minor burns to his hand and another man in his 60s suffered minor lacerations to his legs.

Just before 4pm police were called to a second truck fire that shut down another major highway because of smoke.

It is understood the fire started after a tire on the truck exploded and the sparks caused the grassfire to ignite.

A QAS spokeswoman said the truck’s occupant did not sustain any major injuries.

A QFES spokesman said two crews were responding to the incident, which reportedly caused a 1.5km firefront.

It is understood fire crews are working to protect a nearby shed.

The incidents follow a single-vehicle rollover on the Bruce Highway at St Lawrence earlier in the day.
