In a plucky performance, six Bowen dancers have taken first place in their debut eisteddfod in Sarina.
Dance teacher and owner of Bel’s Performing Arts Studio, Bel Morton, led a group of hopeful young dancers comprising of Kilani Uerata, Havana Power, Lily Richards, Lily Sanderson, Rori Fleer and Sofia Gehrlach to the competition.
“I could not be any prouder of these young ladies,” Mrs Morton said.
“Competition is not for everyone and to take home such a result in their first ever eisteddfod speaks volumes of their dedication to their sport and their team’s bond.”
There was some apprehension leading up to the performance as nine year old Rori Fleer sprained her ankle.
“I didn’t know if I’d be able to do it,” Ms Fleer said.
“I was so excited to hear our name when we won.”
While Ms Fleer was nervous before the show, Sofia Gerlach was thriving, embracing getting “hyped-up” before performing.
“The girls in my group are my dance sisters,” Ms Gerlach said proudly.
Havana Power points to Mrs Morton’s mentorship as one of the reasons she was able to perform so passionately and aspires to continue competing in the future as part of a hip-hop dance troupe or a lyrical duo.
Bel’s Bowen Superstars also took home the trophy for team spirit and Bel herself was recognised with the outstanding teacher award.
Bel’s Bowen Superstars, following this successful debut, are looking to compete in larger eisteddfods in the hopes of statewide recognition.
