A Toyota Hilux ute was found burnt and abandoned on a dirt track several hours after it was stolen from a Bowen home.

Senior Constable Steve Smith said the Baker St house was broken into sometime between 5pm July 16 and 4am July 17.

He said the intruders took the keys to the silver Toyota Hilux from a bedside table after gaining access to the home by damaging a side window.

The stolen ute was found some hours later abandoned and torched on a dirt track at Gordon Creek in Bowen about 11.20am July 17.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about either the Baker St break and enter or the burning of the stolen ute to contact them.
