After more than 12 months with little action, it can be revealed the latest moves in ALDI’s ambitions to open a Mackay supermarket. And there could be more than one.

After more than a year of next-to-no action, ALDI has made steps towards building its Andergrove store.

The company has lodged revisions to its store layout which detail extra check-outs, a change to staff amenities and a “separate shop tenancy” to temporarily replace what would have been a Click and Collect service.

There is no suggestion as to what shop or business would fill the tenancy.

Mackay Regional Council approved ALDI’s modifications in March this year, but the German retailer is yet to advise Mackay residents on when it plans to start building at the corner of Beaconsfield Road East and Superior Boulevard in Andergrove.

It was understood ALDI had originally hoped to open the 1973sq m supermarket by the end of last year.

There are now reports the company is scoping out a location for a second Mackay region supermarket as well as a distribution hub to service both stores, but there has been no official confirmation.
