Lee Lovell relives moment his wife Emma Lovell was murdered

Lee Lovell has relived the heartbreaking moment he knew he would “need to survive” for his kids after realising his wife had been fatally stabbed.

North Lakes dad Lee Lovell has relived the heartbreaking moment he knew he would “need to survive” for his kids after realising his wife – his daughters’ “best friend” – had been stabbed by home invaders.

Emma Lovell, 41, was fatally stabbed in the chest when their home was disturbed by two intruders on Boxing Day night.

Mr Lovell said he was running on adrenaline when he realised his wife was on the ground, even though he was stabbed himself.

“I didn’t know how deep the stab wound was, I was so fearful of not surviving and leaving the kids on their own,” he said.

“I kept telling myself I can’t die I need to survive. That was the pep talk I was trying to give to myself.”

Mr Lovell said in the moment he kept thinking about his daughters.

“She was devoted to our children and to me and just providing a healthy household for us to be in. She would do anything for everyone, she was such a loving person,” he said.

“The kids used to go to their mum about issues and boys and school.

“I love they had that close relationship. I am so sad that they are not going to have that – I have to try and fill those shoes.”

Mr Lovell said he used to tell his kids to tell “mummy everything” because she could always help them.

But throughout the hard times, Mr Lovell said he was trying to treasure all the precious moments he had with his wife.

“We were so in love. She was so nice to be around. We enjoyed being in each others company,” he said.

“On a Saturday night we’d watch a movie and have a couple cocktails, just being in each others company was just really nice and I’m just going to miss that part.”

Mr Lovell said his wife was so organised and would always be thinking about what was next.

“Sometimes you’d be fearful of her driving,” he laughed.

“She’d always be thinking about 200 things on her mind, about the kids, schooling.”

Mr Lovell said they were starting to love the area and his wife enjoyed getting to try new things.

On the night of the incident, Mr Lovell, called Emma’s brother David Angel in the United Kingdom to detail the incident.

“I phoned David when I was in the ambulance at the time and I was trying to spit it out,” he said.

After hours of not being near his phone, Mr Lovell said the next thing he heard his brother in law was on the way to the airport.

Mr Angel said as he waited at the airport to get his flight to Australia he saw the heartwarming messages from friends and family.

“I sat there and I replied to everybody. Even now I find it hard, I just sit there crying,” Mr Angel said.

“That’s what I did in the middle of the airport and I didn’t even think about it

“Going forward that’s going to be really helpful to Lee and the girls that the community can help.”

But the hardest part for Mr Angel is the feeling of waiting for his younger sister to come back.

“Yesterday we went to the supermarket to get supplies. We were walking around with the girls and my daughters,” he said.

“It really was just like we were waiting for Emma to come back from work.

Two boys, both 17, charged with Mrs Lovell’s murder were remanded in custody until January 16 after their matters were mentioned in Brisbane Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Mr Angel said he hoped there would be justice for his sister.

“She really was beautiful, she was through and through,” Mr Angel said.

“It’s such a massive loss for the family. We will remember her and we have lots of good memories.”

But during this difficult time Mr Angel said the support from the community and the GoFundMe that was created has put him at ease.

“It’s so heartwarming I don’t think I’ve ever seen a community response ever before – to know that’s here for the family when we go back home is amazing,” he said.

A silent and respectful candlelight vigil was held at Lake Eden on Friday night.
