Lee Lovell returns home

The heartbroken husband of Emma Lovell has spoken about the moments leading up to his wife’s death, and how he broke the news to his daughters that their mum wasn’t coming home.

Ms Lovell, 41, was fatally stabbed in the chest after she and her husband Lee Lovell disturbed two intruders who had broken into their family home on Boxing Day night.

Two boys, both 17, charged with Mrs Lovell’s murder were remanded in custody until January 16 after their matters were mentioned in Brisbane Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The couple woke to a dog barking about 11.30pm and an alert from their home security system that someone was in their house.

“We just bolted to our bedroom door and opened it and two people were there,” Mr Lovell told A Current Affair.

“It was a major shock, it was terrifying to be honest.”

They were both stabbed, but Mr Lovell never expected his wife would not make it.

“It felt like it was over in like 30 seconds, but they’d run off and then reality started to set in.

“I didn’t (think she would die), because I suppose the work the paramedics were doing at the time … I know she didn’t have a pulse, but then they got her pulse back.

“It wasn’t until a couple of hours later in the hospital I was told, it was a major shock to be honest.”

Mr Lovell then had to break the news to his two daughters that their mum didn’t make it.

“I think she (daughter) said something like ‘where’s mummy’, and I’m like ‘we need to talk’, and then they just broke down.

The Lovells had lived in the North Lakes home since 2018 after relocating from the United Kingdom to Australia.

“We both discussed that Australia was the better choice for our family …. to raise our kids here, but we are starting to doubt that at the moment.

“These past few years, we were living in Sydney for a while, but we moved back to Brisbane and just our relationship and our family was just getting better and better.”
