Actors Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell have debuted as Carole Baskin and Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel in the first official trailer for limited series Joe vs Carole, which was filmed across Brisbane.
The American actors showed off an uncanny resemblance to the infamous duo, made famous by 2020 Netflix series Tiger King, in the full-length trailer for the new drama series, released on Friday.
All eight episodes of Joe vs Carole are set to be released on March 3 across the US on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock.
It will then premiere in Australia on March 4 on streaming service Stan.
The series was filmed at Brisbane’s Screen Queensland Studios and on location across southeast Queensland for a number of months from July, with the city standing in for Oklahoma and Florida, where the events took place.
It employed hundreds of Queensland crew while a number of Australians were cast in supporting roles, including Marlo Kelly as Baskin’s daughter.
Joe vs Carole was secured for Queensland as part of a three-series deal between the NBC and the Australian Government, joining Young Rock and Irreverent.
Kyle MacLachlan’s unlikely Brisbane pen pal
Based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, the series follows Baskin, a big-cat enthusiast, in her rivalry with big cat zoo owner Exotic, who is breeding his big cats for profit.
Instead of using real animals for the series, the tigers were added in using CGI.
Along with McKinnon and Mitchell, the series stars Kyle MacLachlan as Howard Baskin, William Fichtner as Rick Kirkham, and Dean Winters as Jeff Lowe.
Watch the full series from March 4 on Stan.
