A Lockyer Valley man has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a dangerous chase on the Ipswich Motorway on Saturday night where officers were forced to deploy a taser.

The 42-year-old Regency Downs man was allegedly seen driving 30km per hour over speed limit on the Ipswich Motorway and failed to stop.

A police spokesman said patrol cars, POLAIR, and the dog squad were involved in tracking down the man.

“Police deployed a tyre deflation device on Augusta Parkway at the Ipswich Motorway, successfully deflating several of the vehicle’s tyres,” he said.

“It’s alleged the Toyota (Soarer) continued at high speed, driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road and through red lights causing several motorists to take evasive action.”

The spokesman said the man ditched the car on Branxton Court at Redbank Plains and fled on foot into a yard.

“He attempted to hide near the driveway of a home before climbing on top of a vehicle in the driveway,” he said.

“Police will allege he then threatened officers, claiming he had a weapon.

“It’s alleged the man further refused to comply with police directions, and as a result a taser was successfully deployed, causing the man to fall to the ground where he was taken into custody.

“The man sustained a dog bite which did not cause serious injury.”

The man was charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, serious assault police officer whilst pretending to be armed with a weapon, vehicles used on roads must be registered, drive uninsured vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver's licence, using vehicle for which a number plate attached recorded as stolen, false registration plates, obstruct police officer and breach of bail condition.

The man will appear at the Ipswich Magistrates Court on March 14 after his matter was first mentioned on March 7.
