Video: Disgusting behaviour by McDonald’s worker posted on Facebook

Footage has emerged online of a McDonald’s worker using a fry warmer to dry a dirty mop that had just been used.

A social media post of a Queensland McDonald’s worker drying the head of a floor mop under the heat lamp in a fry warmer have gone viral.

The disturbing footage shared online was allegedly recorded in April but has only just been shared online, with Ipswich Council now confirming it had issued a food safety notice.

The original poster of the video said they were shocked to witness the manager using the food area so carelessly.

“I was shocked at what I was witnessing and she just laughed it off,” they said.

“This happened on April 4 and was reported to McDonald’s Head Office and the health department.

“I couldn’t get over the manager’s carelessness. I don’t even think she cared that I recorded what she was doing”.

McDonald’s said in a statement that it took food safety extremely seriously and followed strict cleaning, sanitisation and hygiene procedures in all restaurants.

“We have addressed this with the restaurant directly and conducted thorough re-training for all employees on McDonald’s sanitisation, hygiene and food safety procedures,’’ it said.

“This was an isolated incident and we will continue to work with the restaurant to ensure this does not happen again.’’

Matters of retail food outlets falls under the Queensland Food Act 2006, and as such is regulated by local Councils.

Ipswich City Council have a regulatory scheme for licensed local food businesses based on a star rating system to ensure food businesses are operating at high levels of compliance and food safety levels are regularly monitored.

Ipswich City Council said in a statement that it had issued a food safety warning after receiving a customer complaint in early April.

“Residents are encouraged to report any food safety concerns to council by calling 3810 6666,’’ it said.

“Council will continue to conduct routine inspections of food businesses across Ipswich to ensure community safety.’’
