The inaugural Football Queensland (FQ) School Futsal State Championships are upon us, with games commencing on June 21 at Nissan Arena.
The competition will be the first of its kind, playing host to schools from across Queensland who will all be vying for a chance to represent the state at the proposed School Futsal National Championships later in 2023.
With talent hiding in every corner of the southeast, it’s time to reveal the 26 players to keep on your radar.
Player Name: Sebastian Bors
Age Group: Juniors
School: Clairvaux Mackillop College
Skills: Undoubtedly a deadly target man. Bors is big, fast and strong on court. He is expected to score many goals, so the pressure is on.
Player Name: Elijah Barwick
Age Group: Juniors
School: Clairvaux Mackillop College
Skills: Pacy target or left flank. Barwick is great at dribbling the ball and is a high goal-scorer for his team. He’ll be a vital asset during the competition.
Player Name: Sam Hucknall
Age Group: Junior Boys
School: Stretton College
Skills: Sam is a technically gifted player and his understanding of the game is phenomenal, especially for such a young age.

Skills: Nassif is a key player with an evident ‘team first mentality’, he puts his all into every game.

Skills: A skilful player who has the ability to change the game in an instance and has an eye for the goal.

Skills: Davies is playing Club Football for GC United. She is talented midfielder with technical skills up her sleeve. Davies is also a great team player.

Skills: Thake is playing Club Football for QAS. She specialises in defence and boasts fantastic leadership skills, earning her captaincy of the team.

Skills: A naturally skilful and composed left footer who glides across the court with the ball at
her feet. At the age of 13 she is already playing and contesting well at open girls level.

Skills: A goal scorer and creator, plays in a similar vein to her idol Sam Kerr. She has the ability to
come up with important goals at important times.

Skills: One of the most versatile and intelligent male futsal players ICB has, Jaqandi can play any of
the court positions with skill, maturity and intelligence. He has a powerful and deadly accurate right
foot.
Player Name: Burak Bugdayli
Age Group: Junior Boys
School: Islamic College of Brisbane
Skills: With a soft first touch and a habit of appearing at the back post Burak is deceptively quick
and skilful. He is extremely useful to have in the team as he’s also a quality goalkeeper and a great
fifth player option.

Age Group: Senior Girls

Skills: A tough and tenacious defender with an eye for a pass and a strong long shot. A budding
coach who has the maturity to play her game and see the bigger picture for her team.

Skills: A tricky and skilful player who really attacks the ball and drives the team forward with
penetrating runs and killer passes.

Skills: A calm and composed goalkeeper who makes the difficult work look easy. A natural shot
stopper with an eye for a quick throw to start a counter attack. She produces big saves at big
moments in the game.

Skills: A fierce competitor who mixes power, skill and a desire to win in equal measures. Swaray
plays the game off instinct and, as all naturally skilful and competitive players do, he plays right on
the edge which can be a joy to watch. When he takes hold of a game his skill and natural ability is
a challenge for any opponent.

Skills: Now in Year 12 Ismael is ICB’s most complete male player, he is becoming a master of
multiple positions on the court and has the ability, skill and maturity to dictate games and their pace
and tempo. His mix of skill and composure affords him the ability to see passes other players don’t.

Age Group: Senior Boys
School: John Paul College
Skills: A dynamic goal scorer with explosive speed. Bray’s competitive spirit, technical ability,
and leadership shine on the court making him our number one to watch.
Player Name: Chloe Merritt
Age Group: Junior Girls
School: John Paul College
Skills: Merritt’s powerful right foot and ability to read the play make her a formidable defender.
Fearless at the back and gives 100% every minute of every game.
Player Name: Darcy Heffernan
Age Group: Senior Girls
School: John Paul College
Skills: One of the most deceptive players you’ll ever watch. Heffernan has the ability to find space
where no one else can and can pull the trigger and score goals by catching defenders off-guard.
Player Name: Akash Sutharshan
Age Group: Junior Boys
School: John Paul College
Skills: A defensive ninja that is impossible to get past. Explosive speed and a bag of tricks that
enables him to attack from the back.
Player Name: Harry Barnes
Age Group: Junior Boys
School: John Paul College
Skills: The youngest on the team at just 11 years of age, his ability to find the net and slide
balls through players running makes him a leader of JPC’s attack.
Player Name: Matthew Mueller
Age Group: Senior Boys
School: St Andrews Lutheran College
Skills: A true student of the game. Mueller has coached junior teams which has improved his
own game-play and awareness. As a target-player, his ability to be in the right place at the right
time for his teammates is exceptional.
Player Name: Bradley Douglas
Age Group: Senior Boys
School: St Andrews Lutheran College
Skills: As a true utility player, Douglas is a tireless and dedicated member of the team. His
composure under pressure is to be commended. The number of times his commitment and work
ethic has lifted the team cannot be counted. A true workhorse for his team.
Player Name: Denzel Holmes
Age Group: Senior Boys
School: St Andrews Lutheran College
Skills: One of the youngest players of the team playing up from U16, Holmes brings a dynamic and
inspirational style of play. His composure when in congestion is remarkable. A true x-factor player
who seems able to provide a lift for the team in tough games. He plays his part well.
Player Name: Jeremiah Kilung
Age Group: Senior Boys
School: Mabel Park SHS
Skills: Captain of MP State, Kilung brings an electric energy and excitement to the court. Individual skill, team player and killer defence, he can be lethal from any position.

School: Mabel Park SHS
Skills: A hard working, energetic player that can create goals from nowhere. Technical and
powerful with both feet with skill to match.
