The inaugural Football Queensland (FQ) School Futsal State Championships are upon us, with games commencing on June 21 at Nissan Arena.
The competition will be the first of its kind, playing host to schools from across Queensland who will all be vying for a chance to represent the state at the proposed School Futsal National Championships later in 2023.
With talent hiding in every corner of the southeast, it’s time to reveal the 26 players to keep on your radar.

Age Group: Juniors
School: Clairvaux Mackillop College
Skills: Undoubtedly a deadly target man. Bors is big, fast and strong on court. He is expected to score many goals, so the pressure is on.
Player Name: Elijah Barwick
Age Group: Juniors
School: Clairvaux Mackillop College
Skills: Pacy target or left flank. Barwick is great at dribbling the ball and is a high goal-scorer for his team. He’ll be a vital asset during the competition.

School: Stretton College
Skills: Sam is a technically gifted player and his understanding of the game is phenomenal, especially for such a young age.

her feet. At the age of 13 she is already playing and contesting well at open girls level.

come up with important goals at important times.

Skills: One of the most versatile and intelligent male futsal players ICB has, Jaqandi can play any of
the court positions with skill, maturity and intelligence. He has a powerful and deadly accurate right
foot.

Skills: With a soft first touch and a habit of appearing at the back post Burak is deceptively quick
and skilful. He is extremely useful to have in the team as he’s also a quality goalkeeper and a great
fifth player option.

Skills: A tough and tenacious defender with an eye for a pass and a strong long shot. A budding
coach who has the maturity to play her game and see the bigger picture for her team.

stopper with an eye for a quick throw to start a counter attack. She produces big saves at big
moments in the game.

Skills: A fierce competitor who mixes power, skill and a desire to win in equal measures. Swaray
plays the game off instinct and, as all naturally skilful and competitive players do, he plays right on
the edge which can be a joy to watch. When he takes hold of a game his skill and natural ability is
a challenge for any opponent.

Skills: Now in Year 12 Ismael is ICB’s most complete male player, he is becoming a master of
multiple positions on the court and has the ability, skill and maturity to dictate games and their pace
and tempo. His mix of skill and composure affords him the ability to see passes other players don’t.

Skills: A dynamic goal scorer with explosive speed. Bray’s competitive spirit, technical ability,
and leadership shine on the court making him our number one to watch.

Age Group: Junior Girls
School: John Paul College
Skills: Merritt’s powerful right foot and ability to read the play make her a formidable defender.
Fearless at the back and gives 100% every minute of every game.
Player Name: Darcy Heffernan
Age Group: Senior Girls

Skills: One of the most deceptive players you’ll ever watch. Heffernan has the ability to find space
where no one else can and can pull the trigger and score goals by catching defenders off-guard.

Skills: A defensive ninja that is impossible to get past. Explosive speed and a bag of tricks that
enables him to attack from the back.
Player Name: Harry Barnes

Skills: The youngest on the team at just 11 years of age, his ability to find the net and slide
balls through players running makes him a leader of JPC’s attack.
Player Name: Matthew Mueller

Skills: A true student of the game. Mueller has coached junior teams which has improved his
own game-play and awareness. As a target-player, his ability to be in the right place at the right
time for his teammates is exceptional.

Skills: As a true utility player, Douglas is a tireless and dedicated member of the team. His
composure under pressure is to be commended. The number of times his commitment and work
ethic has lifted the team cannot be counted. A true workhorse for his team.

Skills: One of the youngest players of the team playing up from U16, Holmes brings a dynamic and
inspirational style of play. His composure when in congestion is remarkable. A true x-factor player
who seems able to provide a lift for the team in tough games. He plays his part well.

School: Mabel Park SHS
Skills: Captain of MP State, Kilung brings an electric energy and excitement to the court. Individual skill, team player and killer defence, he can be lethal from any position.
