ONE of Australia's veteran nature photographers is calling on locals to take part in the Ipswich Enviroplan Photographic Competition.
Michael Snedic has been travelling the country taking photos of nature for 17 years, but was yesterday in Ipswich instructing budding photographers on how to best take pictures of nature.
Over the past 11 years the Enviroplan Photographic Competition has become Queensland's biggest such competition attracting 1200 entries last year.
He is full of praise for the competition and the support the Ipswich City Council has shown to the arts through their support of it.
"It's such a great program for the council to support," he said.
"I've been photographing nature for the past 17 years. It's what I do.
"I just think this is a fantastic initiative to get people into photography and out in nature.
"It's been a bright day, which isn't ideal lighting conditions for photography, but that's just meant I've had to teach people how to get around that."
Mr Snedic will be a judge for the 2013 competition, but was at the Queen's Park Enviro Centre yesterday to provide a number of photographers with instruction.
He said he hoped the skills and tips he was teaching could lead to even more people taking part in the competition.
As part of the workshop, participants took photos of Queen's Park fauna and animals from the Nature Centre.
He said he had just returned from an eight-day trip into western Queensland where he and a group of students were photographing outback birds.
The competition is open to any photographer but the photos must be taken within the Ipswich City Council limits. Visit enviroplanphotocomp.com.au. and michaelsnedic.com/
