An enormous $43 million project proposed for Ipswich could see the construction of a new childcare centre, dozens of apartments, and more than 50 residential lots.
Developer Pacific Enterprises Group submitted a development application to Ipswich City Council that, if approved, would transform a vacant 41,300 sqm site at 7002 Junction Drive, Redbank Plains, into a community hub.
The project comprised a mixed-use development including 53 residential lots, a 112-place childcare centre and 40 three-storey apartments.
Muhammad Jangda, of Pacific Enterprises, said the group aimed to start construction of the project as soon as it received council approval, with the first step creating 55 allotments.
The group would then start building the childcare centre and, subsequently, the apartments.
“It is anticipated that the entire project will run for two-and-a-half years with the construction phase creating 35 full time equivalent jobs,” he said.
Mr Jangda said the new childcare centre, Seedlings & Co Redbank Plains, would create an additional 30 job opportunities.
“The aim is to have the childcare (centre) up and running in 2023,” he said.
If approved, the centre would be the fourth Seedlings & Co site to open since the first – Calamvale Early Learning Centre – was established in 2007.
There is currently a Seedlings & Co at Bellbird Park, but Mr Jangda said Ipswich’s population growth meant another local site was desperately needed.
The 40 apartments proposed for the site include six different dwelling types, with two types providing a single bedroom and four types providing two bedrooms.
Plans for the 53 residential dwellings stated each would be a single storey and include two or three bedrooms.
If plans are approved by the council, all 55 allotments will be accessed via an extended portion of Junction Drive along the southern portion of the site.
A total of 32 car parks are proposed for the childcare centre, 80 car parks for the 40 apartments, and two for each residential dwelling.
“Each dwelling is provided with a single vehicle garage and an additional car park is provided on the driveway,” the development application said.
