A 160-lot residential development approved for Karalee will include future riverfront parkland that will connect with Colleges Crossing.

The 72ha site towards the river from Dan St and Rae Rd has been approved to be developed over nine stages.

Planning and Development Committee chairman Paul Tully said the Karalee area was well known for its large suburban lots and this development would be in keeping with the area's character.

"Karalee has some beautiful homes on expansive blocks of land and this new development will be no different," Cr Tully said.

"The 160 new residential lots will range in size from 2000sq m lots to 6540sq m lots."

Cr Tully said the development also consisted of land adjoining the Brisbane River that would connect with Colleges Crossing and would be used down the track as a citywide waterside park.

"As part of the approval process, the developers will need to rehabilitate the open space to a natural bushland setting and remove all declared and environmental weeds."

Division 5 Councillor Heather Morrow said residents considering buying in the area would love the open space and close-knit community feel.

"Karalee has a fantastic state school, shops, scout base, a rugby league team, swim club and tennis club," Cr Morrow said.

"It is a fantastic part of Ipswich and I look forward to welcoming new residents to the region."
