A POLICE officer from the Southern Police Region has been suspended from duty today as a result of criminal charges.

A POLICE officer from the Southern Police Region has been suspended from duty today as a result of criminal charges.
The 45-year-old senior constable was previously stood down from official duties in May 2015.
The officer has been served a notice to appear in court on charges of common assault and deprivation of liberty and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 16.
The officer was the subject of a disciplinary investigation concerning allegations he used excessive force during a traffic intercept and failed to treat a member of the public with dignity and respect.
The Southern Police Region includes Ipswich, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.
