A Brisbane man on a stolen motorcycle was arrested when he lost control of his vehicle attempting to avoid police detection and slammed into a retaining wall, a court has heard.

Ellen Grove man Zachariah Jullian Dougall, 27, pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates Court last week to three charges: unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified by a court order and possessing cannabis.

The court heard all offences occurred at an address in Goodna on April 28.

Dougall initially came to police attention at about 2am when officers on patrol initially witnessed the defendant driving a Yamaha YZF motorcycle, which had been reported as stolen two months prior, sans registration plates.

Police came across the vehicle again a short while later at which point Dougall accelerated sharply before colliding with the retaining wall, the court heard.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris O’Neill said Dougall had six pages of traffic history and had continued to offend when the subject of a suspended six-month jail order.

The sentence was imposed in 2019 and suspended for three years after he breached a community service order by not completing the 180 hours of unpaid work.

Sgt O’Neill said Dougall had a particularly terrible history of driving when disqualified by a court order, with five convictions on his record, as well as one for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Defence counsel Geoffrey Seaholme acknowledged Dougall’s criminal and traffic histories were not flattering.

He told the court Dougall had been using cannabis to help relieve pain after suffering a shoulder injury.

Magistrate Andy Cridland sentenced Dougall to nine months’ jail with parole release on December 9.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
