One of seven individuals charged with the murder of Laidley father Jaime Barlow has faced court in person today after his recent release on Supreme Court bail.

Bailey Douglas Sinclair, 20, showed up to his Ipswich Magistrates’ Court mention over five hours late today, May 3, after his lawyer forgot to tell him to show up.

The Kippa-Ring resident was taken into custody when he was just 18 after Mr Barlow’s death on June 20, 2022.

He was charged with murder, attempted murder, and arson.

After over a year on remand, Mr Sinclair was released on Supreme Court bail for the charges last November due to delays in the case waiting for forensic evidence.

Mr Sinclair was ordered to appear in person for committal mention on May 3, but was not present when his matter was first mentioned in the early afternoon.

Defence lawyer John Wilson, of Wilson & Wilson Legal, appeared as town agent on behalf of Mr Sinclair’s law firm, Phillips Crawford Lawyers.

The matter was stood down for Mr Wilson to contact Mr Sinclair – who showed up over an hour later.

Mr Wilson offered the court an apology on behalf of Mr Sinclar’s lawyer Alan Phillips, who he said had given Mr Sinclair incorrect instructions.

Mr Wilson noted Mr Sinclair had driven out to Ipswich from Kallangur to attend.

Magistrate Dennis Kinsella said he appreciated they were complex circumstances.

“These are very serious charges – hence why I didn’t take a more relaxed view of it,” Mr Kinsella said.

The court heard the defence were still waiting for the prosecution to disclose some outstanding evidence, including DNA testing.

The matter was adjourned for committal mention on June 7, on the same date as Mr Sinclair’s co-accused.
