A 56-year-old man has been killed after the light truck he was driving lost control and struck a B-double cattle truck and a car.
The crash, which happened about 12.45pm, shut down the Warrego Highway well into the night with motorists posting pictures of being ‘trapped’ in traffic on the side of the road.
Police said the light truck was travelling east on the Warrego Highway near Brassall when the tragedy unfolded.
The driver of the light truck, from the Logan suburb of Marsden, died at the scene.
No one else was seriously injured.
The Warrego Highway was reopened about 1am this morning.
The crash was followed by another on the Warrego with paramedics responding to a single-vehicle spin into a guard rail on the highway at 3.38am.
One female patient was transported in a stable condition with a minor head injury to Ipswich Hospital.
In the Brassall crash, the B-double truck was carrying cattle and due to the crash, a number of animals had to be euthanised.
On arrival, crews found the cattle truck on its side, as well as another truck that had spilt debris across the road.
The crash closed the highway between Pine Mountain Rd and Kholo Rd in both directions.
Imagery from the scene shows the B-double truck crashed at the site of the fixed speed camera at Muirlea.
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, three people were treated at the scene.
“Two patients were taken to the Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
“Paramedics are treating a patient with life-threatening injuries on scene at this stage.”
Several cows were seen walking free from the cattle truck after the crash, with a few remaining in the cage.
Congestion was reported on the highway from Karalee to Tivoli, according to the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing its investigations.
